The American Ballet Theater performs a varied repertoire of ballet shows each year at the Metropolitan Opera House. The repertoire includes both classical and modern ballet, while they also have a range of offerings aimed at children and families.The Brooklyn Ballet was founded in 2002. It creates and performs contemporary ballet shows that reflect the multicultural character of Brooklyn. The performances take place in downtown Brooklyn, which is easily reached by subway. The Joyce Theater was founded in 1982. The Joyce Theater is located in Chelsea and hosts a range of dance performances from traditional to never tried. Housed in a refurbished Art Cinema, Room 472 of the theater and the programming series from The Joyce Theater offer a special family math program for children 6-14. Downtown New York hosts ballet shows by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the American Ballet, as well as the annual Fall For Dance Festival.
