Balos

The tiny beach of Machairida is located 14 km northeast of Chania and 1 km west of the village of Chorafakia, hidden in a rocky bay. The bay is bordered to the north by a cape resembling a knife, hence its name. According to another version, it takes its name from the knife flower (Gladiolis italicus) that thrives in Crete.
