A New Parkinson Device

Α parkinson device has been developed at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), after 10 years of research by Spanish scientists. It is the first portable device to help patients with Parkinson's disease who have mobility problems. The groundbreaking device was officially unveiled at the annual conference of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS), recently held in Nice, France, with the help of which the patient regains his mobility while the doctor has the ability to monitor even remotely the course of the disease and adjust the treatment to each patient individually.

According to scientists from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia at the conference, they tested their parkinson device on dozens of volunteers, some of whom had Parkinson's disease and others did not. As they found out, the device has a very high sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity is the percentage of people who get sick and have a positive (therefore correct) result on a test. Respectively, the specialty is the percentage of people who do not get sick and have a negative result in the same test. The parkinson device is available all over Europe, and in Greece and the form that has been released looks like a mobile phone, which the patient wears on his belt for 5 to 7 days. It comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts 7 days, as well as the ability to store information for at least 1 year.
